A-State Basketball Hearing a few names for head basketball coach

Several names are floating around with Arkansas State looking for a new basketball coach. Here are some I’m hearing:

Justin Gainey- Tennessee assistant

Joe Dooley - Former East Carolina head coach

James Miller - Mississippi State assistant

Ross Hodge - North Texas assistant

Brian Hodgson - Alabama assistant

Hodgson catches my eye because he is an Alabama assistant and we all know the ties to Alabama at Arkansas State now.

Hodge obviously has the ties to Grant McCasland, the last coach to have some real success here.

Miller is a solid assistant at Mississippi State and could recruit the area well.

Gainey is similar to Miller.

Dooley provides head coaching experience, and that could go a long ways for Arkansas State.

I’m out and about with family today but I’ll have more tonight!

Butch Jones

I know a lot of people have been frustrated at the way things have gone the past few season's at Arkansas State. I can't lie, it's frustrating to me. It's oftentimes hard to find the motivation to do much when I'm bombarded with constant negativity every time I turn around when people want to discuss the program. I get it though. Everyone wants to win.

With that being said, you have to tip your hat to the job Butch Jones and his staff are doing on the recruiting trail. They are once again poised to sign the top recruiting class in the Sun Belt Conference. That can do nothing but help the situation at hand with the rebuild of this team.

Things like this get me excited. They motivate me. They help me push through that negativity that is out there.

With that being said, let's see how spring football and ultimately fall camp goes before the season gets here. I know I can't wait to get back inside of Centennial Bank Stadium!

A-State Recruiting Florida three star QB Will Prichard officially visiting Arkansas State

Arkansas State will host three-star 2023 quarterback Will Prichard this weekend. Prichard let it rip throughout his senior season with Santaluces playing against 4M competition, Florida’s largest classification. The stat line was impressive throwing for 2,932 yards with a 34/2 TD/INT ratio.

Prichard previewed his official trip to Jonesboro.

“I am really excited and happy to see what is up there,” Prichard said. “I am excited to see the school and the academic buildings. I want to see the full campus; I didn’t get to see everything this summer.”

ASU offensive coordinator Keith Heckendorf and Prichard got early bonding time in over the summer at a Red Wolves camp.
