Conference expansion

Have you guys been keeping up with the expansion moves the last few days? The PAC 10 is dead in the water now. The Big 12 and Big 10 are making moves and it looks like some ACC teams are looking to jump ship. Does this eventually cause an effect on the SBC? I know the conference has tried to stay more regional but can we keep that up with the way things are moving?

I got a chance to see Kealon Juniel in action last night

I took in the Sheridan vs Malven scrimmage game last night at Sheridan and put a close eye on A-State 2 Star commit Kealon Juniel throughout the game.

Malvern predominantly has him lined up as an h-back where he did a great job of protecting the QB in the passing game and opening up lanes in the running game. I was very impressed with the intensity he played with and his size. He already looks like a grown man out there.

With it being a scrimmage game things were pretty bland out there, but I was told to expect him to be utilized more in the passing game as a TE as the season moves forward.

Malvern is going to be stout this year. They are the defending 4A state champions, and i expect them to make another run this year.

A-State Football Media day thoughts

Today was a really good day at Arkansas State media day. My hat's off to Arkansas State Sports Information Director Jerry Scott and his team for all of their hard work today. They are absolutely second to none.

The day went off without a hitch and it was fun to mix and mingle with coaches and players for a bit.

There were a few things that really stood out to me today. The main thing that stood out to me in every single player I spoke with mentioned that the entire team is working together as one cohesive unit now. I had several tell me something along the lines of "this year it is about the team, not individuals". That really stood out to me. Guys on both the offensive and defensive side of the football mentioned this.

There is going to be one heck of a QB battle this month. The coaching staff is going to let the guys compete, and whoever shows they have the stuff will be the guy.

Jaxon Dailey spoke about his mustache. He said that he grew it after watching Tombstone. He said he like Doc Holliday and wanted to have a mustache like his. JT Shrout is bigger than I expected. You can tell he has been there and done that. I'm 6-foot-4 and I had to look up at the guy. Both of them seem to have a good head on their shoulders and want to do what they can to help the team. I'll have interviews with both of them posted tomorrow.

Jeff Foreman said he has learned a lot in his time at Arkansas State, and he said that this year is the first time he feels like the team is truly together as one as they head into the season. He is excited to share the room with the other guys in the WR room. I'll have an interview with him posted Sunday.

Dominic Zvada spoke about making himself better than he was last year. He said that he fell off a bit last year as the team got into the later parts of the season, so he is going to work harder this year to keep his leg strong and healthy all season long. I'll have an interview with him posted soon.

Eathan Hasler said he is excited about the linebacker room and the entire defense. He feels like they will step their game up this year. I'll have more on him soon, as well.

Over all there was an excitement in the air that you could feel. I haven't felt this level of excitement at media day in several years. Games still have to be played, but the feeling in the room today is that this year's team will be much improved over the first two teams Butch Jones and his staff fielded at Arkansas State.

Worried about recruiting

Luke has mentioned multiple times that recruiting fell off at the end under Blake Anderson after he lost Trooper, Early, and Cauthen then had to take some time away from the road. One thing Luke pointed out is all of the commits with FCS offers and no stars. I'm getting worried because I am seeing the same thing happening right now in this recruiting class. We are taking guys with a lot of FCS offers and no stars. The guy that committed today we are his best offer. There are a couple others too. Someone please talk me off the ledge.
